The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Friday the agreement settles a lawsuit it filed in federal court in Denver against Interstate Distributor Co. It also settles seven charges of discrimination that individuals filed with the commission.
The company was accused of firing more than 200 injured employees without granting them reasonable accommodations as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The EEOC alleged that when an employee needed more than 12 weeks of leave, Interstate automatically fired them rather than determining if it would be reasonable to provide accommodations.
The company denies any violations but says it settled to avoid litigation.
